The Greenberg laboratory at Harvard Medical School focuses on identifying how neuronal activity shapes the maturation and plasticity of neuronal circuits required for learning and memory. Long-term memories are encoded by sparse neuronal ensembles whose coordinated activity during learning drives lasting circuit plasticity. While initial ensemble formation and molecular programs after recall have been more extensively studied, the gene-regulatory programs that support cell-class-specific plasticity over longer periods of memory consolidation remain poorly understood. To address these questions, we work at the interface of systems neuroscience and molecular and cellular biology.
